Something for everyone at the Shoppes of Old River Road

You'll find food, clothes, art and more at The Shoppes of Old River Road.
Been to The Shoppes of Old River Road lately? It certainly is flourishing. The location is on Old Detroit Road and Old Lake Road in Rocky River, near where Detroit and Wooster roads intersect. The area, also know as Old River Shopping Area, seems to be abuzz, no matter what time of day.
This quaint area lined with boutiques, galleries and restaurants should definitely be on your list for a destination shopping stop. Find a spot on the street or in one of the parking lots available. Spend the afternoon browsing and eating, and even add in a spa or beauty service at Charles Scott Salon.
There are many unique businesses to visit here. Begin at Paper Trails, specializing in stationery, invitations and gift wrap. Head east to enjoy several clothing boutiques like Innuendo, Geiger's Store For Women, and Girl Next Door, featuring California inspired designs. And don't forget Adesso, considered one of the top 10 men's stores in the United States, according to Esquire magazine.
Got a future bride in the family? Then Perfect Bride is worth a stop, along with Peneventures, featuring mother-of-the-bride apparel. Amy's Shoes is always a favorite for its fun and different selection of shoes. Pzazz is a vintage consignment shop, and Style Mutt offers a boutique, grooming and daycare for dogs.
Planet Green touts itself as a store to support your organic lifestyle, and it certainly fills the bill. It offers everything from VOC-free paint and flooring, to sustainable furniture, clothing and organic food.
There are also three art galleries to visit: Off The Wall Gallery, River Gallery, and Michael Sotka, offering antique and vintage furniture and decor. Head across the street to Solari for colorful tableware and home decor, as well as bath and body products from Milan. And then walk around the corner to Embellish to buy and create your own jewelry.
Finally, consider taking a lunch or dinner break. The relatively new French bistro Tartine, specializing in tapas, nicely rounds out the area's popular staples: Stino da Napoli's for authentic Italian cuisine and Salmon Dave's for steak and seafood. I have been to all three restaurants and can vouch for each of them.
The Shoppes of Old River Road is sure to please all discerning tastes and interests. Enjoy the old world atmosphere without leaving the heart of a bustling city.
Beginning at 5 p.m. May 14, the Shoppes of Old River will resume its monthly "Sip N Stroll," which takes place on the second Thursday of each month this summer. Participating merchants provide wine tasting or other treats and encourage customers to shop while enjoying an evening stroll.
WHAT'S THE SCOOP? On Saturday, May 2, select Old River shops will accept gently used clothing, pet toys and books for donation to different charities. Many retailers will offer discounts or free services, such as jewelry cleaning, for donations.
